Concrete Mountain, 2019
Concrete Mountain is an investigation into the human-altered landscape. In my search for locations when driving around industrial estates near my home in the western suburbs, I stumbled upon a recycling plant and production facility for concrete in Brooklyn. I was taken aback by the strange beauty of the large-scale human-made mountains of rubble and concrete.
This discovery has led me to research the cultural history of concrete. Apart from water, it is the most widely used material on earth. Concrete production has a substantial environmental impact on natural resources and CO2 emissions. Concrete is everywhere when you start to look: roads, pavements, bridges, buildings and houses.
